MARKARTSY Legong Headpieces

I created Legong Headpieces in response to an invitation to collaborate with a local fashion photographer and publication highlighting emerging fashion designers in Lesotho. I used traditional Basotho grass weaving and felting techniques to create the garments. In this collaboration I art directed images that would best highlight the textures and silhouettes of the garments and headpieces. My collaborator Karabo Makatse was the photographer for this shoot.

As an Indonesian designer, I often combine silhouettes and concepts from my love for Asian theater and dance. I used traditional Basotho grass weaving and felting techniques to create these headpieces. The outfits I styled using hand-woven kente cloth and other garments and accessories that I created. The photographs were taken by Karabo Makatse for an online publication entitled MARKARTSY.
